Hinning House, in the beautiful Duddon Valley, has been providing high quality, residential outdoor education for over 50 years. Our qualified and experienced teaching staff offer schools and colleges exciting outdoor courses using dramatic and inspiring natural environments.
Education, and a belief in developing the potential of all young people, lies at the heart of the Centres’ ethos.
Hinning House is situated in awe-inspiring surroundings that ensure the ‘WOW!’ factor is a fundamental part of any visit. Activities make use of the surrounding area as well as the local sites, and all children have maximum opportunity to participate for the whole session.
The Centre is in a spectacular location, surrounded by superb places for rock scrambling, climbing, hill walking, orienteering and mountain biking. There are also beautiful valley walks along the River Duddon, and farm visits can be arranged. Water sports can also be accessed through our sister centre at Coniston, Low Bank Ground.
Hinning House can accommodate up to 30 people, all under one roof, in seven bunk bedrooms. Four of the rooms have six beds, and three have two beds; all bedding is provided.
At Hinning House we deliver high quality residential outdoor education that is competitively priced and gives excellent value for money. All staff are dedicated to the needs of the visiting children and staff, the focus being a learning experience which is safe, enjoyable and a preparation for continuing to learn throughout life. By using real life settings and experiences, young people have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding in an environment that is both stimulating and challenging.
Evenings can be staffed if required, although many visiting teachers prefer to make use of the time to develop their relationships with their children through using some of the range of self-staffed activities that the Centres offer.
The Centres are available to independent groups on a catered or self- catering basis, and we also provide training and activity courses for adults and family groups.
