High Borrans is a country house in the heart of the Lake District National Park, 3 miles from Windermere. The Centre is owned by North Tyneside Council and has provided quality residential outdoor education courses since 1967.
The Centre is comfortably furnished with a welcoming ‘home-from-home’ atmosphere. Accommodation is for up to 36 course participants and 6 group leaders (bedding provided). Facilities include a lounge/library with wood burning fire, and flexible teaching spaces with wi-fi equipment. All courses are fully catered with delicious home cooked meals. High Borrans is open all year round.
Visitors
Our customers include schools, youth groups, clubs, organisations, families and friends. We also provide corporate team building and social celebration packages.
Activities
Activities are tailored for those experiencing the outdoors for the first time, to those wanting to build on skills and enjoy a higher level of adventure.
Onsite activities include canoeing on our tarn, ropes course, orienteering, problem solving and archery. Offsite we have the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks on our doorstep, and activities range from caving and ghyll scrambling, to canoe journeying and abseiling. Minibus transport provided.
Programme
The course programmes are bespoke, designed to meet group objectives, with leadership from highly experienced and qualified instructors working in partnership with visiting group leaders.
Curriculum
High Borrans staff have the teaching backgrounds to offer cross-curricular outdoor learning; fieldwork in geography and ecology, numeracy, literacy and creative activities. The residential setting combined with teamwork activities is a great way to develop confidence, self esteem and communication – all key life skills – as well as raising achievement.
