Gwent Outdoor Education Service is a partnership of 4 local authorities providing high quality outdoor education in south east Wales.
Gilwern OEC is a former school set in large grounds. All on one level, no stairs. Dormitory accommodation in two separate buildings. One with 30 beds and one with 40 beds. Separate staff accommodation. Centrally heated. Large dedicated drying room.
Intruder detection on all external doors.
AALS licenced for caving, climbing, canoeing, kayaking, raft building, mountain walking, trekking.
On-site high ropes course including climbing wall plus five other vertical challenges.
Also on site: Indoor climbing wall, bouldering, archery, camping area with access to toilets and running water, large wooden ‘bivi’ shelter can sleep up to 12, orienteering courses, over 20 problem solving tasks, wildlife meadow, woodland, Large bank of specialist equipment including waterproofs, boots, wellingtons, rucksacks.
