The Eric Wright Trust focuses on groups of young people from schools or other organisations, attending course of educational value and accompanied by their teachers and /or leaders. Such courses aim to enhance aspects of study relating to the National Curriculum, Personal and Social Education and recreation.

The Trust wishes to support any young people who are in financial need; teachers and leaders are encouraged to contact Water Park about such needs. The Trust can subsidise any young people who cannot afford the cost of a residential course at Water Park. Other courses will be provided for corporate clients. Such course could promote team working, personnel development, managerial processes or be purely recreational.

The Estate has a history as a ‘Park’ belonging to Furness Abbey. Its origins are believed to go back to the 12th Century, although the current building is largely Georgian and Victorian in style. The thirteen bedrooms are equipped with single beds and provide accommodation for two, three, four and in one case five people. Showers and toilets

are in close proximity. Equipment and clothing for a whole range of land and water based activities are provided.

The Wright Lodge is our day visit facility right by the water’s edge. This was established in 2010 to allow non residential groups access the whole range of activities we have on offer.  Groups can approach the Eric Wright Trust for a contribution towards the cost of their visit to the Wright Lodge.

High quality individual care means groups return to Bassenfell year after year. It has a superb setting in 3 acres in theLake District National Park near Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw Mountain. We offer activities in the grounds of Bassenfell, and on the fells and lakes. All relevant activities are fully licensed: AALA registration number L8207/R0157.

Programmes are individually designed to include your catering requirements, outdoor activities and educational visits. Every group is presented with a Christian ‘thought for the day’ which

shares our faith in our amazing God in an interactive fun way relevant to the activities to be undertaken that day.

Sole use of the centre is the norm for groups, and accommodation at Bassenfell is for up to 65 people in 19 bedrooms (mainly en-suite), sleeping between 2 and 5. Central heating is throughout the centre and there is an entrance lobby, comfy lounge, coffee bar, conservatory overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake, a large conference room, games room, dining room, drying room, and a well equipped kitchen.

There is also a self contained holiday apartment which can be hired to increase group total capacity to 69.

We deliver high quality outdoor education using the ‘real’ outdoor environment delivered by very experienced staff, most of whom are qualified teachers as well highly qualified leaders in a wide range of outdoor activities. We have the highest standards of safety and risk management and a strong educational emphasis in everything we do.

Bewerley Park easily accommodates up to 130 residents at one time, mainly in dormitories, with some smaller units. The 15 acre grounds can accommodate camping groups.

Most users do 5 day midweek or 2 day weekend residentials for primary and secondary age pupils undertaking a variety of outdoor activities, environmental education and team building exercises. Each programme is tailor made to meet the aims and objectives of the user group, and can be adapted for those with special educational needs. Activities include climbing, sailing, gorge exploration, kayaking, canoeing, raft building, high ropes, orienteering, hillwalking, bushcraft and camping. They are linked to learning about the natural environment and how to look after it and ourselves as we enjoy it.

We also provide activities for groups on one day visits and go into schools to deliver outdoor programmes as part of the school curriculum. The Centre runs specialist skills courses, expeditions and leadership qualification courses in sailing, climbing, hillwalking, and paddlesports.  We run training days for adult corporate groups and the centre can be hired as a training or residential venue for groups running their own programmes.

The superb lakeside location enables excellent provision for water sports. The Coniston Fells are accessible by foot from the Centre for half and full day activities. Research at the Centre into transfer of learning, places the courses at the cutting edge of programme delivery, while the friendly and professional approach of staff provides for an enjoyable and very memorable learning experience.

AHOEC Gold Standard Outdoor Education

Location. Large Victorian house set in it’s own 50 acre estate overlooking Coniston Water with views to the southernLakeland fells.

Ethos. We

believe that the outdoor adventure environment and the residential experience provide the most powerful framework for developing young people.

Activities. With mountains, lake and woods the centre is ideally suited to. Mountain walks, Ghyll Scrambling, Orienteering,  Canoeing, Kayaking,RaftBuilding, Mountain Biking, Problem Solving and Sailing.

Accommodation & Facilities The centre takes groups of 36 but can sleep 40 plus up to 7 leaders. Recently refurbished with the help of the national lottery, over a million pound was spent upgrading the main house. Open all year round and fully central heated. Fully catered or

self catering groups accepted. Facilities include, 10 bedrooms, large lounge, dining room, large barn with woodburner / games room and climbing wall.

Centre Staff. Qualified, experienced and committed staff help achieve our Gold Standard and Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.

Carlton OEC is

a residential centre situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and is set against a spectacular back cloth of wooded hillsides local forests, farmland and local heather moorland allowing easy access to real adventures at a variety of venues. The centre is owned by a group of Hartlepool trustees and is managed by Hartlepool Borough Council and has been providing quality residential education courses since the 1920’s, it is competitively priced and gives excellent value for money.

The Centre is comfortably furnished with a welcoming ‘home-from-home’ atmosphere. Accommodation is for up to 60 course participants and 8 group leaders (bedding provided).

Facilities include 3 lounges, library,

hall, meeting room, indoor climbing wall, and flexible teaching spaces with Wi-Fi equipment.

All courses are fully catered with delicious home cooked meals or the centre can be booked on a self-catering basis. Carlton OEC is open all year round.

Visitors

Our customers include schools, youth groups, clubs, organisations, families and friends. We also provide corporate team building and social celebration packages.

Activities

Activities are tailored for those experiencing the outdoors for the first time, to those wanting to build on skills and enjoy a higher level of adventure.

Onsite activities include high ropes course, orienteering, problem solving and archery.

Offsite we have the North Yorkshire Moors andYorkshireDalesNational Parkson our doorstep, and activities range from canoeing and rock climbing, to mining and abseiling. Minibus transport provided.

All activities are lead by staff that are well qualified and have a wide variety of experience working with different groups not only in theUKbut also in overseas environments.

Programme

The course programmes are bespoke, designed to meet group/individuals objectives working in partnership with visiting group leaders. The residential setting combined with teamwork activities is a great way to develop confidence, self esteem and communication – all key life skills – as well as raising achievement

By using real life settings and experiences, young people have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding in an environment that is both stimulating and challenging

Evenings can be staffed if required, although many visiting teachers prefer to make use of the time to develop their relationships with their children through using some of the range of self-staffed activities that the Centres offer.

Carlton Lodge is set in 12 acres of beautiful grounds –

a unique blend of parkland, woods and lakes, located between the national parks of the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. We have on-site accommodation for 98 and now offer camping facilities within the grounds.

As a registered charity we are committed to providing safe and fun developmental activities for everyone. Our clients include schools, colleges and youth groups, but any ‘organised’ group can visit Carlton Lodge. We are happy to welcome corporate clients requiring innovative staff development or groups of family and friends just wanting to have fun outdoors. We offer activities for school and youth groups as well as private individuals and

corporate organisations.

Courses are tailor made to suit the needs of our clients and can be residential or non residential. Offsite activities use the mountains, lakes and rivers of the National Park and the caves of the Yorkshire Dales.  Onsite activities include: high ropes elements, problem solving and a range of exciting lake based activities.

Our instructors are well qualified in all of the activities we offer enabling them to stay with their group for the duration of the course, delivering a much more personal experience for participants.

At Ghyll Head we feel there should be no barriers to adventure, we have superb accessible facilities including wheelchair abseils, zip wire, off road and electric wheelchairs as well as a purpose built accessible boathouse, with lift and hoists allowing access to canoeing and sailing.

Accommodation includes a modernised Victorian house sleeping 46, and a modern accessible Bungalow that sleeps 15. Both buildings have their own dining facilities, games room, drying area as well as communal space and ICT suites. Groups have sole occupancy of their accommodation.
